Sport at Club Level

Sport is considered to be an integral part of education at Battle Abbey and students are encouraged to seek further opportunities to further their skills, expertise and passion. We encourage all students to become involved in the various extra-curricular clubs we offer and to further these qualities though links to external coaches.

We aim to aid students to make the most of their sporting abilities by raising participation in sport and promoting lifelong involvement. This will assist students in building team spirit and present opportunities for taking responsibility through roles such as team captains which in turn produces committed team players who value the importance of leadership and responsibility.

Our sporting facilities on-site consist of an Astro Turf, sports field, lawn tennis (summer term), and an orienteering/cross-country course set in the beautiful and extensive historic battle grounds. Off-site we use a range of sporting facilities & centres to cater for the sports we offer in addition to our own 20m indoor swimming pool.

In addition to the Curriculum we offer Volleyball, Horse riding, Handball, American Football, Indoor Lacrosse, French Bowles, Archery, Martial Arts, Boxing and Kickboxing.

Students who have pursued and achieved sporting success in a variety of areas include:
Darius Khalesi: Swimming Regional
Fox Parker: Sussex Cricket, Kent Hockey
Betty Edwards: Horesriding
Anthony Donaldson: 4th in East & West Sussex, 800m

For students who excel in a sporting area we can also support them through the PE element of the whole school Gifted and Talented programme. Below are links to a variety of summer camps which range in duration for those with that extra sporting passion.

Keep posted on this page for upcoming sporting trips for the academic year 2011/2012...
