Netball
Netball is one of the most popular sports at the abbey. In Netball girls can learn team-work, goal-setting, strategic thinking and the pursuit of excellence. Specialist staff ensure pupils learn to take part with others, take risks, to be assertive and have fun together. All teams have captains providing valuable leadership opportunities. Students get the opportunity to partake both as part of the curriculum and outside of school hours. There is an extensive fixtures calendar enabling students to play against both local state and independent schools.
‘The highlight was the netball tournament because we arrived over half an hour early and we were all warming up before all the other teams and we got to play 4 matches all at once. For me the best time playing netball is against other schools and in fixtures, although we didnt do very well we all had fun playing. Another highlight was the 02 visit, watching professionals play was a amazing experience which I want to do again.’
Sophie Cole - Year 9 Netball Captain
Curriculum:
Netball is one of the major sports we offer on the curriculum. It is offered in both PE and Games lesson the full length of the winter term. With great staff to students ratios and 2 full sizes courts we are able to offer the girls excellent provision and learning opportunities.
Also this year as part of the curriculum 30 students travelled to The 02 to watch England vs New Zealand. The match was a fantastic opportunity to see the game play at the highest level. All the girls came away inspired a keen to get back into training.
Clubs and fixtures:
Due to the popularity of netball at Battle Abbey we run two extra curricular clubs a week. This gives two opportunities for students both boys and girls to stay behind to further their skills and enables us to accommodate all the pupils offering the best possible development.
Club links:
For those who excel and want to develop their skills higher the school has close links with Hastings Netball League. Students attend training sessions after school on a Monday evening and are able to enter into higher level regional league.

For keen netball players in yr11 and the 6th form we enter a team into the Hastings District Ladies Netball League. This gives the students a wealth of experience to bring back into school. They are able to pick up new skills and tactics as well as develop their conduct and etiquette. Our current team had a very challenging but successful season and we hope to continue this next year.
